			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>When we start boot Windows XP, Windows XP call many unused font files</h2>
<h3>Get rid of unused font to enhance your computer&#8217;s agility</h3>
<p>The more you install font in your computer, the more time you needs for booting process.<br />
To speed up booting process, move out the font file to another folder.</p>
<p>Fonts use quite a bit of system resources, for <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/disable-last-access-mark/">optimal performance</a> you should remove any unused fonts that you do not use on a daily basis. This tip shows you how.</p>
<p><strong>To Remove unused fonts in windows 7 for better performance</strong></p>
<p>1- Click <strong>start </strong>&gt; select <strong>Control Panel</strong>.</p>
<p>2- Double click the <strong>Fonts folder</strong>.</p>
<p>3- <strong>Make a backup</strong> of your fonts before removing any fonts.</p>
<p>4- After backing up your fonts, <strong>remove any unused fonts</strong> from the folder to speed up the Windows 7 performance.</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://computeradvisors.net/windows-7/remove-unused-fonts-in-windows-7-for-better-performance/" rel="nofollow">http://computeradvisors.net/windows-7/remove-unused-fonts-in-windows-7-for-better-performance/</a></p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1116" title="unused font" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/fontsxx.png" alt="unused font" width="345" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-177"></span></p>
<p>The main concept behind this is that it simply free up a whole lot of memory of Windows when it boots. This post shows How to Increase Boot Speed by Uninstalling Unused Fonts?</p>
<p><strong>There are 2 ways to carry out this process:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Simply go to <strong>Window’s Fonts Folder</strong>. Using<strong> CTRL</strong> key select all fonts that you never/rarely use and just press the <strong>DEL</strong> key.</li>
<li>Another best approach is to <strong>simply stop the loading</strong> up of unused fonts at <strong>system startup</strong> (instead of completely deleting them). For this, just <strong>COPY</strong> all unused fonts from the Window’s Fonts Folder and <strong>PASTE</strong> them at any other location on hard drive. Now <strong>DELETE</strong> all the unused Fonts (those you recently copied to another location) from the <strong>Window’s Fonts Folder</strong>.</li>
</ol>
<p>The next time Windows Boots up, it will definitely be faster than previous boots. As now the Windows startup has less fonts as well as less load. Give the 2nd method a damn try right now, to be on the safer side!</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://mrintech.com/increase-boot-speed-by-uninstalling-unused-fonts" rel="nofollow">http://mrintech.com/increase-boot-speed-by-uninstalling-unused-fonts</a></p>
<p>Here&#8217;s how :</p>
<p>1. Open Control Panel<br />
2. Click Font icon (Classic Style View)<br />
3. Choose the font that rarely used by holding Ctrl button and clicking them<br />
4. Create another folder and move the files out to that folder<br />
5. Restart your computer</p>
<p>OK, enough for Windows XP tweaking, repair, maintenance, or whatever that make your computer run faster and optimized. I&#8217;ll serve you with another post about unused font next time.</p>

<h3>Disabling last access could also speed up your disk access</h3>
<p>In standard setting, every time Windows XP <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/turn-off-network-folder-anda-printer-auto-search/">read a file</a>, it will create a <strong>last access</strong> timestamp on the file. This feature is useful for backup needs, but actually the backup just need the last access date. This feature makes Windows XP works harder because everytime Windows read a file, it must write the timestamp too.</p>
<p><strong>Manual Registry Tweak</strong></p>
<p>Open up regedit.exe through the start menu run box, and then navigate down to the following key:</p>
<blockquote><p>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem</p></blockquote>
<p>Create a new DWORD value in the right-hand pane named NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate and give it a value of 1. To remove this tweak just delete the key or give it a value of 0.</p>
<p>You’ll have to restart your computer before it will take effect.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1110" title="last access" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/Reg2.jpg" alt="last access" width="282" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-175"></span></p>
<p><strong>Download Registry Tweak</strong></p>
<p>Download and extract the file and double-click on the DisableLastAccessUpdate.reg file to enter the information into the registry. There’s also a removal script included.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.howtogeek.com/geekers/DisableLastAccessUpdate.zip" rel="nofollow">Download DisableLastAccessUpdate Registry Tweak</a></p>

<p><strong>How To Disable Last Access Time Stamps In Windows 7</strong></p>
<p><em>Open</em> the cmd prompt from administrator mode like before, but this time <em>Type</em> in “ <strong>fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 1</strong> “</p>
<p><strong>How To Use Last Access Time Stamps In Windows Search Results</strong></p>
<p>Manually looking through the properties of every file on your system could take years.  This is were Windows Search comes in to use, using Search + Timestamps you’ll be able to sort by access date and see exactly what went down on your PC, exactly when it all happened, and sometimes even what order.</p>
<p><strong>1. </strong>In the Start Menu search area, <em>Type</em> <strong>*<em> </em></strong>and <em>Press </em><strong>Enter.</strong></p>
<p>Searching for a * sign signifies that Windows Search should pull up every single file on your computer.  The See more results button is another great way to get into the search mood.</p>
<p><strong>2. </strong><em>Switch</em> the Window view to <strong>Details.</strong></p>
<p><strong>3. </strong>Right-Click category bar and <em>Click </em><strong>More…</strong></p>
<p><strong>4. </strong>On the next window <em>Scroll down </em>and <em>Check</em> the box for <strong>Date Accessed </strong>and then <em>Press </em><strong>OK</strong>.</p>
<p>That’s it!  Now when you do Windows Searches it will pull up and show the Date accessed category and you can organize it better than this picture by just <em>Clicking</em> the <strong>Category name.</strong></p>

<p>For a normal usage, this feature isn&#8217;t important. For a faster Windows XP, I recommend you to turn off this feature by the following steps :</p>
<p>1. Click Start<br />
2. Choose Programs<br />
3. Choose Accessories<br />
4. Choose Command Prompt<br />
5. Type down a command : FSUTIL behavior set disablelastaccess 1<br />
6. Press Enter<br />
7. Restart your computer</p>
<p>Now, there is no more delays when you open a file. Subscribe for this blog if you don&#8217;t want miss a thing just like your last access feature has been shutted down!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Windows automatically look for network folders and printers when opening a folder</h2>
<h3>Shut the network folder feature down so there is no delay while exploring</h3>
<p>Just take a look, when you are opening a folder, not a <strong>network folder</strong>, you can feel there is a delay. This happen because Windows XP automatically looking for file and printer in <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/disable-connection-to-network-drives/">Network Drive</a> every time you open Windows Explorer.</p>
<p>I’m going to start out with a little refresher from the last article in case someone missed it. The first thing you want to do is set the sharing options up on the drive or folder you want to share. This requires you to be on the computer that houses the drive or folder. For instance, if I want to access a file on my desktop from my laptop, I need to first use my desktop to share the folder.</p>
<p>As an example, I will be sharing the My Pictures folder as seen below. This example is for a folder, but the instructions would be exactly the same for a drive.</p>
<p>Now, you need to right click on the folder and select properties.</p>
<p>Once you click properties, a window will pop up. You want to click the sharing tab. Once in the sharing tab, you will see that the second box in the page gives you some sharing options. We want to start by clicking in the box next to “Share this Folder on the network.” After this is completed, you can give the shared folder a shared name if you prefer.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1105" title="network folder" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/Network-Folder-icon.png" alt="network folder" width="200" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-172"></span></p>
<p>As you may have noticed, the second check box becomes available after clicking the first one. Let me explain the difference between the two.</p>
<p>The first option allows you to access folders on another computer over your network, but you can’t edit or rename the files in the folder. Also, you can’t add any files to the shared folder. If you decide you want more control, you can click the box next to “Allow network users to change my files.” This will allow you to do all of the things mentioned above.</p>
<p>Remember after the changes you have made to make sure you press the apply button to apply the changes.</p>
<p>Now, you want to go back to your laptop or other computer. First, open up the My Computer window. Once this is open, you will click on the Tools menu and within the menu you will click on Map Network Drive.</p>
<p>After you click this, the following window will pop up. The top drop down menu allows you to select the drive letter for your drive or folder. After you select the drive letter, you want to click the Browse button.</p>
<p>A new pop up window will now appear. In it, you will see your network folder which by default is called MSHome, but you may have changed that. Expand the file tree until you see the drive or folder you want to map. For this guide, I wanted to map the F: drive on Ctrlcntr, so I expanded the MSHome file tree and the Ctrlcntr file tree to find the drive I was looking for. Now, I highlight the F: drive by clicking on it and click OK.</p>
<p>Now, your My Computer window should look something like this one, and as you can see at the bottom, there is now a Network Drives section. Remember that this guide works for folders or drives, so you can map whatever you need access to whether it is an entire drive or just one folder.</p>

<p>To fix and speed up it, just follow these steps :</p>
<p>1. Open Windows Explorer<br />
2. Click Tools<br />
3. Click Folder Options<br />
4. Choose View tab<br />
5. Uncheck Automatically search for network folder and printers<br />
6. Click Apply<br />
7. Click OK<br />
8. Reboot your computer</p>
<p>Just subscribe to know more about network folder and printer auto search.</p>

<h3>Learn how to disable the connection to network drives</h3>
<p>If your computer is connected to a LAN (<em>Local Area Network</em>), Windows XP has a feature called &#8220;<strong>Map Network Drives</strong>&#8221; which will make your access to the other computer&#8217;s file much easier. With Network Drives, you can access other drives that connected with your computer via LAN or WLAN.</p>
<p>But, this configuration will make your <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/do-we-need-click-sounds/">computer booting process slower</a>. If the other computer that connected to your computer is off, then it will take a long time for Windows to detect it.</p>
<h3 id="tocHeadRef">Use the Net Use command to map or disconnect a drive</h3>
<p>You can use the net use command for batch files and scripts. To use the net use command to map or disconnect a drive:</p>
<ul>
<li>To map a network drive:
<ol>
<li>Click <strong>Start</strong>, and then click <strong>Run</strong>.</li>
<li>In the <strong>Open</strong> box, type cmd.</li>
<li>Type net use <em>x:</em> \\<em>computer name</em>\<em>share name</em>, where <em>x:</em> is the drive letter you want to assign to the shared resource.</li>
</ol>
</li>
<li>To disconnect a mapped drive:
<ol>
<li>Click <strong>Start</strong>, and then click <strong>Run</strong>.</li>
<li>In the <strong>Open</strong> box, type cmd.</li>
<li>Type net use <em>x:</em> /delete, where <em>x:</em> is the drive letter of the shared resource.</li>
</ol>
</li>
</ul>
<h3 id="tocHeadRef">Disconnect from a mapped network drive</h3>
<ol>
<li>Click <strong>Start</strong>, and then click <strong>My Computer</strong>.</li>
<li>Right-click the icon for the mapped drive.</li>
<li>Click <strong>Disconnect</strong>.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Note</strong> When you disconnect from a mapped drive, you remove the mapped drive letter that you assigned to the shared resource. You can still access the resource from My Network Places.</p>

<p><a href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308582" rel="nofollow"><span id="more-168"></span></a></p>
<p>If the Network Drives is rarely used, I suggest you to disable the connection to improve your system speed. Here&#8217;s how to turn off/disable the connection :</p>
<p>1. Open Windows Explorer<br />
2. Right click Network Drive<br />
3. Choose Disconnect</p>

<p>To open up the sounds configuration panel quickly, just type in <em>mmsys.cpl</em> into the start menu search box, and hit enter. You could also go to the Sounds and Audio devices in Control Panel, or even type <em>Sound</em> into the search box.</p>
<p>Click the Sounds tab and then browse down in the list to “Start Navigation”</p>
<p>You’ll see that the dropdown box has “Windows Navigation Start.wav” selected. Change this to (None) at the top of the list.</p>
<p>Hit OK and your annoyance is over with.</p>

<p>To save the usage of resources in the computer, it&#8217;s better to turn off the click sound feature. Here is how :</p>
<p>1. Open Control Panel<br />
2. Click the Sounds and Audio Devices icon. (use Switch to Classic View)<br />
3. Choose Sounds tab<br />
4. Choose No Sounds option<br />
5. In the dialog box, click No button<br />
6. Click Apply</p>
<p>Now, there is no click sounds anymore, this mean your computer is using less memory.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Windows XP provide more visual performance and effects</h2>
<h3>But, all visual performance make your computer slow down</h3>
<p><strong>To <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/defrag-program-and-boot-file/">enhance your windows performance</a> you can tune the visual settings allowing more processing power to go to the applications you desire. The visual performance settings are held in your system properties. <strong>Right click</strong> on my computer from the context menu select <strong>Properties</strong></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">System Properties</span></strong></p>
<p>Inside the system properties window select the <strong>Advanced</strong> tab. Click the <strong>Settings button</strong> in the performance section.</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Visual Performance Options</span></strong></p>
<p>The visual performance Options window will open up with the Visual Effects tab. The third radio button <strong>Adjust for best performance</strong> will uncheck all of the visual effects check boxes.</p>
<p>You should notice less rendering being done in your windows operating system. The most noticable difference will be when you move a window you will see an outline of the window you are moving while the original window stays in one place. This will create a noticable difference on smaller systems</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://www.hilands.com/os-windows-visualperformancesettings.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.hilands.com/os-windows-visualperformancesettings.html</a></p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1089" title="visual performance" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/performance-settings-windows-7.png" alt="visual performance" width="132" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-161"></span></p>
<p>To configure the visual performance effects in Windows 7, you need to use the <strong>Performance Options</strong> dialog box that you open from the <strong>System Properties</strong> dialog box.</p>
<p>There are multiple ways to open the <em>System Properties</em> dialog box. The following 2 methods will show you how to do this both from the dialog box’s actual location and via a shortcut.</p>
<p>Method 1 – System Properties Location.</p>
<p>1 – Click on the <strong>Start Menu</strong>.<br />
2 – Click on <strong>Control Panel</strong>.<br />
3 – Click on <strong>System and Security</strong>.<br />
4 – Click on <strong>System</strong>.<br />
5 – Click on <strong>Advanced system settings</strong> from the left hand pane.</p>
<p>Method 2 – Shortcut.</p>
<p>1 – Click on the <em>Start Menu</em>.<br />
2 – Type “<strong>system env</strong>” from the <em>Start</em> <em>Menu </em>search box.<br />
3 – Click on <strong>Edit the system environment variables</strong>.</p>
<p>To open the <em>Performance Options</em> dialog box, make sure you’re on the <strong>Advanced</strong> tab in the <em>System Properties</em> dialog box and then click on the <strong>Settings</strong> buttons under the <strong>Performance</strong> section.</p>
<h2>Areas to take note of:</h2>
<p><strong>Visual Effects</strong><br />
The Visual Effects tab allows you to optimize the visual effects for the menus, toolbars, windows and the taskbar in Windows 7. The more effects that are enabled, the more resources your computer will use.</p>
<p>The four available options you can choose from are:</p>
<p>1 –  <strong>Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer</strong> – lets Windows 7 decide on the your settings based on the hardware configuration on the computer.</p>
<p>2 – <strong>Adjust for best appearance</strong> – will enable all the visual performance effects for all the graphical interfaces.</p>
<p>3 – <strong>Adjust for best performance</strong> – will disabled all the visual performance effects for all the graphical interfaces.</p>
<p>4 – <strong>Custom </strong>– lets you decide which of the available options to enable or disable.</p>
<h2>Configuring the Visual Effects for Better Performance in Windows 7</h2>
<p>I cannot tell you which the best configuration to use is because it is down to personal preference. As you can see from the screenshot above, I’ve chosen to use the <em>Custom </em>option and only enabled the following 2 settings – <strong>use visual styles on windows and buttons</strong>, and <strong>smooth edges for screen fonts</strong>.</p>
<p>The reason I went for these settings is because I’m not interested in all the gimmicks and visual effects that comes with Windows 7. I’m more interested in getting better performance.</p>
<p>Play around with the <a href="http://www.score-louisville.org/component/page,shop.product_details/category_id,6/flypage,flypage.tpl/product_id,45/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,5/vmcchk,1/" rel="nofollow">once daily cialis</a> different settings and see what works best for you.</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://pcsnippets.com/configuring-visual-effects-better-performance-windows-7/" rel="nofollow">http://pcsnippets.com/configuring-visual-effects-better-performance-windows-7/</a></p>
<p>You can turn off this by doing the following steps :</p>
<p>1. Open Windows Explorer<br />
2. Right click My Computer<br />
3. Choose Properties<br />
4. Choose Advanced tab<br />
5. In Performance section, click the Settings button. The dialog box will be shown<br />
6. Check the Adjust for best performance option<br />
7. Click OK</p>
<p>Maybe your visual performance will be go like little old school but this make your computer run faster.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Both program and boot file need to be defragmented</h2>
<h3>Learn how to defragment program and boot file</h3>
<p><strong>There is another type of <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/defrag-your-harddisk-regularly/">defragment</a> that speed up Windows XP, which is defrag the program and boot file to the first location of harddisk so it can be loaded faster.</strong></p>
<div>
<p>Did you find a BOOT file on your computer and wonder what program should open it? Maybe someone emailed you a BOOT file but you&#8217;re not sure how to use it. Perhaps you tried to open the BOOT file but Windows told you that it could not open it.</p>
<p>Before you can open a BOOT file (assuming it&#8217;s even a file format that&#8217;s intended to be viewed or edited), you&#8217;ll need to determine what kind of file the BOOT <a href="http://pcsupport.about.com/od/termsf/g/file_extension.htm" rel="nofollow">file extension</a> refers to.</p>
</div>
<p><strong><strong>Answer: </strong>A file with the BOOT file extension is an InstallShield file.</strong></p>
<p>Other types of files may also use the BOOT file extension. If you know of any additional file formats that use the BOOT extension, please <a href="http://pcsupport.about.com/mpremail.htm" rel="nofollow">let me know</a> so I can update this information.</p>
<h3>How to Open a BOOT File:</h3>
<p>The easiest way to open a BOOT file is to double-click on it and let your PC decide which default application should open the file. If no program opens the BOOT file then you probably don&#8217;t have an application installed that can view and/or edit BOOT files.</p>
<p><strong>Warning:</strong> Take great care when opening executable file formats received via email or downloaded from websites you&#8217;re not familiar with. See my <a href="http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/execfileext.htm" rel="nofollow">List of Executable File Extensions</a> for a listing of file extensions to avoid and why.</p>
<p>As of this writing, I don&#8217;t have information on any specific applications that will view BOOT files or open BOOT files for editing. If you know of any, please <a href="http://pcsupport.about.com/mpremail.htm" rel="nofollow">send me a quick email</a> and let me know the name of the program so I can update this page.</p>
<p><strong>Tip:</strong> Use Notepad or another text editor to open the BOOT file. Many files are text-only files meaning no matter the file extension, a text editor may be able to properly display the file&#8217;s contents. This may or may not be the case with BOOT files but it&#8217;s worth a try.</p>
<p>If you find that an application on your PC does try to open the file but it&#8217;s the wrong application or if you would rather have another installed program open BOOT files, see my <a href="http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/f/chdefprogram.htm" rel="nofollow">How to Change the Default Program for a Specific File Extension</a> guide for making that change in Windows.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1082" title="boot file" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/boot.from_.file_.gif" alt="boot file" width="351" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-157"></span></p>
<h3>How to Convert a BOOT File:</h3>
<p>There are two main ways to attempt to convert a BOOT file to another file type:</p>
<ul>
<li>Open the file in its default program and choose to save the open file as another file format.</li>
<li>Use a <a href="http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/tp/file_converter.htm" rel="nofollow">File Conversion Online Service or Software Program</a> to convert the file to another file format.</li>
</ul>
<p>The first option involving opening the file in its native program is preferable because it&#8217;s both easier and will probably result in a more accurate file conversion. Of course if you don&#8217;t have a program that opens BOOT files, a third-party file conversion tool (the second option) could be very useful.</p>
<p><strong>Important:</strong> You cannot usually change a file extension (like the BOOT file extension) to one that your computer recognizes and expect the newly renamed file to be usable. An actual file format conversion using one of the methods described above must take place in most cases.</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fileextensions/f/bootfile.htm" rel="nofollow">http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fileextensions/f/bootfile.htm</a><strong></strong></p>
<p>Usually Windows XP schedule this process every three days when computer is on but with no activities (<em>idle</em>). To do it manually, we can command the system :</p>
<p>1. Click Start<br />
2. Choose Programs<br />
3. Choose Accessories<br />
4. Choose Command Prompt<br />
5. In the Command Prompt screen, type defrag c: -b<br />
6. Press Enter</p>
<p>It should defrag the program and boot file automatically and now your computer is faster on booting process.</p>

		document.write('<div class="g-plusone" href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/defrag-program-and-boot-file/" data-size="medium" data-count="true"></div>');

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Maintain your harddisk is so easy</h2>
<h3>Why you don&#8217;t defrag your harddisk now?</h3>
<p><strong>When you harddisk is the one that under 7200 rpm, then it must be defragged regularly. Defragmentation is process to arrange the data in a location that make harddisk works faster. </strong></p>
<p>In the maintenance of file systems, <strong>defragmentation</strong> is a process that reduces the amount of fragmentation. It does this by physically organizing the contents of the mass storage device used to store files into the smallest number of contiguous regions (fragments). It also attempts to create larger regions of <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/use-disk-cleanup/">free space</a> using <em>compaction</em> to impede the return of fragmentation. Some defragmentation utilities try to keep smaller files within a single directory together, as they are often accessed in sequence.</p>
<p>Defragmentation is advantageous and relevant to file systems on electromechanical disk drives. The movement of the hard drive&#8217;s read/write heads over different areas of the disk when accessing fragmented files is slower, compared to accessing the entire contents of a non-fragmented file sequentially without moving the read/write heads to seek other fragments.</p>
<p>Fragmentation occurs when the file system cannot or will not allocate enough contiguous space to store a complete file as a unit, but instead puts parts of it in gaps between other files (usually those gaps exist because they formerly held a file that the operating system has subsequently deleted or because the file system allocated excess space for the file in the first place). Larger files and greater numbers of files also contribute to fragmentation and consequent performance loss. Defragmentation attempts to alleviate these problems.</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defragmentation" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defragmentation</a></p>

<p><span id="more-154"></span></p>
<p>This will make computer run faster.<br />
To defrag with Windows XP original deframenter, just follow these steps :</p>
<p>1. Click Start<br />
2. Choose Programs<br />
3. Choose Accessories<br />
4. Choose System Tools<br />
5. Choose Disk Defragmenter<br />
6. Choose the drive that you wan to defrag<br />
7. Click Defragment button</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Disk Cleanup is a tool to wipe out trash from your computer</h2>
<h3>Learn how to use Disk Cleanup wisely</h3>
<p>In <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/reduce-the-size-of-recycle-bin/">previous post</a>, we know that we need to save harddisk capacity if we want a fast harddisk. If a half of harddisk capacity is used, then it would be very slow. That&#8217;s why we need to clean up junk files.</p>
<p><strong>Disk Cleanup</strong> (cleanmgr.exe) is a computer maintenance utility included in Microsoft Windows designed to free up disk space on a computer&#8217;s hard drive. The utility first searches and analyzes the hard drive for files that are no longer of any use, and then removes the unnecessary files. There are a number of different file categories that Disk Cleanup targets when performing the initial disk analysis:</p>
<ul>
<li>Compression of old files</li>
<li>Temporary Internet files</li>
<li>Temporary Windows file</li>
<li>Downloaded Program files</li>
<li>Recycle Bin</li>
<li>Removal of unused applications or optional Windows components</li>
<li>Setup Log files</li>
<li>Offline files</li>
</ul>
<p>The above list, however, is not exhaustive. For instance, &#8216;Temporary Remote Desktop files&#8217; and &#8216;Temporary Sync Files&#8217; may appear only under certain computer configurations, differences such as Windows Operating System and use of additional programs such as Remote Desktop. The option of removal hibernation data may not be ideal for some users as this may remove the hibernate option.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1074" title="disk cleanup" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/disk-cleanup.jpg" alt="disk cleanup" width="235" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-151"></span></p>
<p>Aside from removing unnecessary files, users also have the option of compressing files that have not been accessed over a set period of time. This option provides a systematic compression scheme. Infrequently accessed files are compressed to free up disk space while leaving the frequently used files uncompressed for faster read/write access times. If after file compression, a user wishes to access a compressed file, the access times may be increased and vary from system to system. In addition to the categories that appear on the Disk Cleanup tab, the More Options tab offers additional options for freeing up hard drive space through removal of optional Windows components, installed programs, and all but the most recent System Restore point or Shadow Copy data in some versions of Microsoft Windows.</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_Cleanup" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_Cleanup</a></p>
<p>For this problem, Windows XP has a feature called Disk Cleanup. Disk Cleanup will detect any junk files and clean it.<br />
To run Disk Cleanup just folow these steps :</p>
<p>1. Click Start<br />
2. Click Programs<br />
3. Click Accessories<br />
4. Click System Tools<br />
5. Click Disk Cleanup<br />
6. Choose the harddisk that you want to cleanup<br />
7. Click OK<br />
8. Choose Disk Cleanup tab</p>
<p>In the Files To Delete section there is a few options :</p>
<p>- Download Program Files. This is a ActiveX control Java applet files that we have downloaded automatically while browsing. All kind of this file is a temporary file, you can delete this.<br />
- Temporary Internet Files. This is a webpages file that make your access to the page faster. You can delete this file.<br />
- Office Setup Files. This an Office installer, I SUGGEST YOU FOR NOT DELETE IT!<br />
- Recycle Bin. This is a file we&#8217;ve deleted. You can delete this file.<br />
- Setup Log Files. This is an Windows installation file. Do not delete this file cause it needed for uninstallation progress.<br />
- Temporary Files. This a file that contains recent information data. You can delete it.<br />
- WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files. You can delete it.<br />
- Compress Old Files. This option is different from the others. It offer you compress the files that rarely used. This option is up to you.<br />
- Catalog files for the Content Indexer. This is an indexed file information. You can delete this if you rarely use file searching facility.</p>
<p>9. Click OK</p>
<p>Now your computer will 7% faster than before. Subscribe if you don&#8217;t wanna miss the next post which is similarly to disk cleanup.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Every file that we have delete didn&#8217;t gone yet, Windows XP store it into the recycle bin</h2>
<h3>With recycle bin, we can restore the files that accidentally deleted</h3>
<p>In computing, the <strong>trash</strong> (also known as the <strong>recycle bin</strong> and by other names) is temporary storage for files that have been deleted in a file manager by the user, but not yet permanently erased from the physical media. Typically, a recycle bin is presented as a special <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/manage-your-folders/">file directory</a> to the user (whether or not it is actually a single directory depends on the implementation), allowing the user to browse deleted files, undelete those that were deleted by mistake, or delete them permanently (either one by one, or by the &#8220;Empty Trash&#8221; function).</p>
<p>Within a trash folder, a record is kept of each file and/or directory&#8217;s original location. On certain operating systems, files must be moved out of the trash before they can be accessed again.</p>
<p>Whether or not files deleted by a program go to the recycle bin depends on its level of integration with a particular desktop environment and its function. Low-level utilities usually bypass this layer entirely and delete files immediately. A program that includes file manager functionality may or may not send files to the recycle bin, or it may allow the user to choose between these options.</p>
<p>Source : h<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trash_%28computing%29" rel="nofollow">ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trash_%28computing%29</a></p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1070" title="Recycle Bin" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/Recycle_Bin.png" alt="Recycle Bin" width="200" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-149"></span></p>
<p>In standard condition, Recycle Bin consume 10% of harddisk capacity. This is a big size enough. If this size reduced, then the space of harddisk is bigger and the harddisk should works faster.</p>
<p>We can reduce the size of Recycle Bin through this steps :</p>
<p>1. Open Windows Explorer<br />
2. Right click Recycle Bin<br />
3. Choose Properties option<br />
4. Choose Global tab<br />
5. Choose Use one setting for all drives option.<br />
6. Move the slider left and right to reduce the Recycle Bin size. If your harddisk capacity is big enough, then choose 3%. But, if not then choose 5%<br />
7. Click Apply</p>
<p>OK, now your harddisk works faster after recycling the recycle bin.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Computer are just like human, they can read folders</h2>
<h3>Manage your folders for a better vision</h3>
<p>In computing, <strong>folders</strong>, <strong>directories</strong>, <strong>catalogs</strong>, or <strong>drawers</strong>, is a virtual container originally derived from an earlier Object-oriented programming concept by the same name within a digital file system, in which groups of computer files and other folders can be kept and <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/turn-off-system-restore/">organized</a>.</p>
<p>A typical file system may contain thousands (or even hundreds of thousands) of folders. Files are kept organized by storing related files in the same folder. The folder can also be referred to as the <strong>root</strong>. A folder contained inside another folder is called a <strong>subfolder</strong>, <strong>subdirectory</strong>, or <strong>child</strong> of that folder. Together, the folders form a hierarchy, or tree structure.</p>
<p>Historically, and even on some modern embedded devices, the file systems either have no support for folders at all or only have a flat directory structure, meaning subfolders are not allowed; there is only a group of top-level folders each containing files. The first popular fully general hierarchical file system was that of Multics. This type of file system was an early research interest of Dennis Ritchie.</p>
<p>Most modern Unix-like systems, especially Linux, have a standard folder structure defined by the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1065" title="folders" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/folders.jpg" alt="folders" width="200" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-147"></span></p>
<p>In many operating systems, programs have an associated working directory in which they execute. Typically file names accessed by the program are assumed to reside within this folder if the file names are not specified with an explicit folder name.</p>
<p>Some operating systems restrict a user&#8217;s access to only their home directory or project folder, thus isolating their activities from all other users.</p>
<p>Unix systems treat folders as a type of file.</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folder_%28computing%29" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folder_%28computing%29</a></p>
<p>Folder that contains a lot of files and subfolders is annoying. This make Windows work hard too. Manage your folder and don&#8217;t forget to delete unused files. Divide the files into a few folder like, uhm&#8230;.music, video and picture. This will make Windows XP faster for showing folder and subfolder.</p>
<p>Enough for this post because it&#8217;ll take long time to solve this problem. Just do the folders-managing activity!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Windows XP has a feature called System Restore, the one that restore all change in system configuration</h2>
<h3>System Restore is really useful for they that like to program the operation system</h3>
<p><strong>System Restore</strong> is a component of Microsoft&#8217;s Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, but not Windows 2000, operating systems that allows for the <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/delete-hibernation-file/">rolling back</a> of system files, registry keys, installed programs, etc., to a previous state in the event of system malfunction or failure.</p>
<p>The Windows Server operating system family does not include System Restore. The System Restore built into Windows XP can be installed on a Windows Server 2003 machine, although this is not supported by Microsoft.</p>
<p>In Windows Vista and later versions, System Restore has an improved interface and is based on Shadow Copy technology. In prior Windows versions it was based on a file filter that watched changes for a certain set of file extensions, and then copied files before they were overwritten. Shadow Copy has the advantage that block-level changes in files located in any directory on the volume can be monitored and backed up regardless of their location.</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Restore" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Restore</a></p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1061" title="system restore" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/2425992.png" alt="system restore" width="306" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-144"></span></p>
<p>System Restore protect your computer by creating a file and configuration backup, this known as restore point. Restore point will be created if :</p>
<p>- you are installing software match with System Restore API<br />
- you are updating OS and Microsoft Security<br />
- computer is standby over 24 hours<br />
- you are restoring<br />
- before installing unknown driver<br />
- Microsoft Backup Utility has been operated</p>
<p>The config and file that save into restore point is :</p>
<p>- Registry<br />
- File Windows File Protection<br />
- COM+Database<br />
- Windows Management Instrumentation Database<br />
- IIS Metabase<br />
- Files with extensions listed in the Monitored File Extensions list in the System Restore section of the Platform SDK<br />
- Local Profiles</p>
<p>The backup saved to System Volume Information folder. The size? Big. If you don&#8217;t need a backup, you can turn off System Restore. But, this is recommended when you are really don&#8217;t need a backup.<br />
To turn off System Resore, you must be logged on as an Administrator. To do it, just follow this steps :</p>
<p>1. Open Control Panel<br />
2. Click System icon<br />
3. Choose System Restore tab<br />
4. Choose Turn off System Restore on all drives option<br />
5. Click the Apply button</p>
<p>Now your computer is faster 1% than before after turning off the system restore feature, subscribe to feedburner because this blog is updated daily!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Hibernation file are used when you are a notebook user</h2>
<h3>Delete the hibernation file to speed up booting process</h3>
<p>If you are a laptop or notebook user, you may have the <strong>hibernation file</strong> feature. When the batteries goes down, laptop run hibernation process. Save all thing that ran on computer and turn off the laptop. When laptop are turn on, all of the thing are <a href="http://www.net-func.com/computer/delete-the-files-in-windows-prefetch-folder/">running perfectly</a>.</p>
<p>This feature is really useful when your laptop/notebook batteries goes down slowly. But, this is just useful if your notebook&#8217;s power is from batteries. If your notebook is always plugged, then it may useless.</p>
<p><strong>Hibernation</strong> in computing is powering down a computer while retaining its state.</p>
<p>Upon hibernation, the computer saves the contents of its random access memory (RAM) to a hard disk or other non-volatile storage. Upon resumption, the computer is exactly as it was upon entering hibernation.</p>
<p>When used to save power, hibernation is similar to sleep mode and saves more power at the cost of slower resumption.</p>
<p>Hibernation saves electrical power. After hibernating, the hardware is completely powered down (just like for a regular shutdown). Therefore a hibernated machine uses no more electrical power than one which is switched off. Meanwhile, hibernation is a means of avoiding the burden of saving unsaved data before shutting down and restoring all running programs after powering back on.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1057" title="hibernation file" src="http://www.net-func.com/wp-content/uploads/hibernation-file-cleaner.jpg" alt="hibernation file" width="179" height="200" /></p>
<p><span id="more-141"></span></p>
<p>Hibernation is used in laptops, which have limited battery power available. It can be set to happen automatically on a low battery alarm. Most desktops also support hibernation, mainly as a general energy saving measure.</p>
<p>Source : <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibernation_%28computing%29" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibernation_%28computing%29</a></p>
<p>Think about to delete it if your notebook is using external power source. Why? Because this feature consume a memory same as your RAM. If your RAM is 1GB, then the size of the hibernation file is 1GB too.<br />
To delete the hibernation file just do the following steps :</p>
<p>1. Open Control Panel<br />
2. Choose Power Options icon<br />
3. Choose Hibernate tab<br />
4. Uncheck the Enable Hibernation option<br />
5. Click OK</p>
<p>Ok, now your notebook are more faster after deleting the hibernation file.</p>
