Redefining the Internet as one of people commodities today

Talking about internet on the internet itself

Nowadays young generation doesn’t read books, journals, magazines and newspapers, the prefer the internet. And really why should they if they have excellent possibilities to find everything necessary on-line. Except information you can find a lot of other different things that can widen your outlook. You can visit Louver gallery with famous Mona Lisa, sitting comfortably in your armchair in front of computer screen.

You can also order different services. If you log on to Internet you can purchase anything you can imagine. Just clicking a right button, you can order term paper or pizza, or tickets to a rock concert. Your term paper order will be done easily; pizza will be tasty and day – just wonderful due to Internet services. Internet without doubt is a blessing for those who have no time and opportunities to go shopping. Besides commercial part of Internet one can also find a wide range of ways of communication. You can chat; use ICQ, instant messengers or an e-mail. With the help of new invention, like a web-camera, you can even see whom you are talking to. Thus you can see that people can practically live on-line, because it is possible to work on-line, study on-line, have fun on-line and even date on-line. But is virtual world a good place to spend your time? People can spend up to 18 hours sitting at the computer. No matter how well is screen protection installed, it is still very harmful not only for your eyes, but also for your organism. Can you imagine your body being x-rayed 18 hours in a row? But this is exactly what happens when you spend days in front of your computer. We can’t but mention considerate parents’ worries about what their kids read and see on-line. Except useful information there, children can find different sites that carry not very useful information. That’s why there are some servers that filter out information your computer receives. We can’t but mention the consequences of sitting in front of the computer all the time. It turns people into typical couch potatoes. They don’t care to stand up and go for a walk or to have some physical exercises. This can result into numerous ailments and problems.

Internet is an isolator too. No matter how much you communicate on-line, it doesn’t give you a credit in speaking with live people. You don’t see facial expressions, gestures, don’t hear their voices. That can tell much about your friend. On-line you have no choice but to believe in anything that is said to you. Then don’t be mad if somebody deceives you. You didn’t know the person well; all you knew was his/her e-mail or ICQ number. Using services provided in the Internet one has to be very careful, not to get in trouble. But what can we do without it nowadays? Due to internet a lot of other businesses started to prosper. We are talking about age of information. How can it exist without Internet? Of course, there are some advantages and disadvantages of internet, but we can’t refuse ourselves in pleasure to get into the world of virtual wonders.

Articles are being used for internet marketing

But, what is the main idea of internet marketing?

Every business, especially internet marketing must have a strategy on how to spread the word out about its products and services. It doesn’t matter if it is an online business or an offline one. If it is sales that you want to achieve, then you must do everything to market out your products and services. One effective way to go about this is through Internet marketing article.

Business Strategy

Look at your own notes. How do you plan to promote your business? It doesn’t really have to be a big time venture that would eat up most of your budget. You need to be practical. Times are hard and not everybody can afford the likes of a broadcast ads.

Now you have two choices when it comes to affordable advertising. It is either you use the print medium or you take advantage of the Internet age. The cheaper means when it comes to print ads are the direct mailing pieces like postcards, catalogs, brochures and flyers. The idea here is to find the right printing company to process your materials.

If you will choose the second route, this will be much cheaper but you won’t really able to track down certain names on a targeted list just like how it goes with direct mailing. But the advantage of this is that many people are browsing the web and you can tap all those people to become your probable clients.

Sit Down and Write

This is how most business owners do it these days. They create good contents, establish themselves as experts in their chosen categories and invite people to click on their links leading them to their web sites.

How do you go about this? You have to choose what areas or categories you want to focus your articles on. Make sure that your intended target audience will be interested on those categories. This is already minimizing the wide range of types and kinds of people who will be reading your articles. This is just like you are making sure you are talking to the right people.

Choose the right article submission sites. Do not submit to every site that offer free article submission. Your business must first be associated with good choices. And this is the first choice that you have to make. To help you with your decision, you can join web forums about such topic. You can also check the Google ranking of the site. Check out also its Alexa’s ranking. This way, you will know what sites get high volume of traffic.

Stay away from the spammy types. That will not do you any good. Yes, your articles may have higher chances to be crawled. But who would want to read materials that are rich in keywords but lack sense? You must convince people that you can help them. You must gain their trust. This way, there are higher chances that they will click on the links that you will provide on your author’s biography box.

Your author’s bio is a small space allotted for you to tell people who you are and convince them that you are that good that they must click on your link to find out more. This is the whole concept behind Internet marketing article.

This was created to help you promote whatever kind of internet marketing business you have by first piquing people’s curiosity then leading them your way, or in this instance, your web site.

Writing article for the sake of internet marketing

Today, internet marketing needs some fresh submission

Going over an article on Internet marketing, you will gauge how the term has changed through the years. It used to be focused on ad placements. The way to do it then was to create a web page and place banner ads on other sites so that you can have links to your own sites.

There are also some internet marketing scheme that evolved wherein you are advised to join a program for you to earn through the Internet.

But as of today, Internet marketing has become synonymous to advertising. And the best way to do this is through creating valuable articles. This way, it is less costly especially if you have the knack for writing and you are going to create your own materials.

Writing the Articles
Writing for the web is a lot different as compared to feature writing on magazines or even in the newspapers. This can be easy to do once you get the hang of it. All you’ve got to have are ideas about a specific topic that you want to become an expert on. But if you really do not have the knack for this craft, you can always hire freelancers to do the task for you.

First thing that you have to remember when writing the articles is that you must have a specific audience in mind. You will address your materials to them. You are vying for their attention that is why you are writing your articles in a way to reach out to them. This is the kind of topics which they are interested to, so you write about it until you are considered and expert. That will not be hard to do especially when you have good content which your target market is always on the lookout for.

You have to be subtle in promoting your own web site, products and services. This rule applies when you get your articles published on different submission sites. Most of the time, you will be allotted a box, an ample space wherein you can create an author’s bio. That’s the part where you can have a link to your site. The idea here is when you already got the trust of your readers, they will be interested enough to click on your specified links.

Take note of the word count. Other submission sites would accept 300 or so words for articles. But most sites prefer 500 to 550 minimum word count. Read the rules thoroughly so that you won’t get banned from any of those useful sites.

Also be careful in using keywords. Do not use it too much to the point that it will annoy your readers. Stuffing your articles with keywords will just make your readers turn away from your materials as long as your motives become very obvious.

Lastly, choose an article submission site that ranks high on Google and in Alexa. You don’t want to submit your work on spammy sites. That will not do your business any good. You can also study where your competitors do their submissions. This way, you can zoom in on those sites and start on your submissions.

Read through an article on Internet marketing just like this one before you plunge into a territory which is still unknown to you. This way, once you’ve entered the battle, thetre will be no turning b

Article marketing used to deal with book authors

Now, article marketing is being used for any products

With the Internet the new venue for business, article marketing has become the new trend for advertising and marketing products to consumers. These articles do not only provide information on a variety of topics, it also allows visitors to see the sites. It is because of this wide range of content why it is so easy now to research over the Internet.

Article marketing, to those who are not yet familiar with the field, is the use of articles to help introduce the products that the sites are selling. These articles will often contain a bio box and a byline that will include the name of the business and the contact information. Article marketing is also used in increasing the rank of a site in search engines like Yahoo and Google.

You see, the more articles you put into the directory, the better will your site’s search results will be. Of course, websites that are on top of the sites will have more visitors and in turn better sales from the increased consumer viewing.

A site that has reliable and good content will not only expect the support of the online viewers but also advertisers who feel that they will be viewed more in the website. These companies are called online advertisers.

Some online advertisers can post their advertisement for free in exchange for a percentage of the income generated by the ads or the number of views of the ad. Some sites however sell their space to online advertisers. The pop up advertisements that you see in yahoo every time you open the search engine is an example of this paid advertisement.

But this usage of articles in article marketing has also led to the decrease in content and structure quality of the write-ups. Because many sites are putting in more articles than they can finish, the articles are often haphazardly done and unfinished. Many will contain grammar mistakes and even wrong spelling. Some sites will even have unfinished articles with the paragraph all about the topic you searched on but the body of the article about an entirely different topics. It will take you a while before you can sort out everything.

The trend of article marketing has also led to a lot of copied content or rephrased content. When you try keyword search and click on the websites that come out in the results, you will notice that a lot of them will have the same content. Some will have the same exact content while others will just be a re-written version of the original that was posted.

From being used as a way to increase the credibility of the product and giving information to the consumers and researchers, article marketing has become a business that has squeezed out the quality from the articles that are posted.

Because of this, researchers on the internet have been cautioned to only check the websites that are being kept by reliable sources such as universities, government agencies, foreign organizations and research facilities. Some sources of information over the internet are not actually to be trusted when it comes to content and originality.

Article marketing have definitely changed the face of the Internet. The question is: Is it for the better or for the worse? We will have to wait and see article marketing in the future.

Streaming radio on Pocket PC

Pocket PC as a useful gadget

Is it all possible? With the Pocket PC, yes it is. You just have to follow these simple rules then you’re all set to listen to your favorite tunes with your internet radio. This time, you have to push your PDA limits to the test and hopefully, the limit will produce a very impressive result.

Of course you already have your MP3 playing on your desktop that is downloaded to your PDA. Now, it’s a challenge on how to stream an internet radio right on the palm of your hands and inside the device. What you need is a software that will make it all possible. So here it is the tips and a quick tutorial on how to stream internet radio.

Wait, hold on. Before that, we’ll define what radio streaming means. Radio streaming means that a radio station is played via a web server. The music is streamed by companies, individuals and radio stations.

Clear? Down to business.

You would need to assemble a couple of things like: your Pocket PC, GSplayer (a freeware that you can find in the “elsewhere on the web” area where links are being routed to the developer’s homepage), and wireless internet connection.

Including Shoutcast and Ogg Vorbis playlists, GSplayer is the kind of player that is easy to manipulate and uses minimal resources but has massive options. There is just one downside in all of this…lack of documentation, the more reason why you want to reconfigure your player according to your options. The following discussion will focus more on setting up your GSplayer to choose to play Shoutcast stations.

Download the GSplayer first. The direct download will get you versions for all Windows and PPCs. While the other download lets you choose the program that’ll process your PPC. Unzip the downloaded files in your desktop. There are about two to three files in the unzipped file. Copy and paste the entire file in you Pocket PC. To make it look more organized, put it inside a personalized folder.

Procedures

1. On your GSplayer, you’ll see the “Tool” button. Click it.

2. Upon clicking the “Tool”, an array of different words will be displayed. There will be effects, playlist, volume up, volume down, display off and options. Select the “Options” bar.

3. A preference page will appear and give you a list of different choices. Under “Preferences”, you can choose to mark everything or leave “add list to existing files” empty. After which click on “Resume” and “Load Previous Playlist” You can also select other areas if you like.

4. At the bottom of your screen, you’ll find “Associations”, choose it then select every option.

5. It’s time to find some favorite tunes! Upon entering the Shoutcast email address, put

a check on the “Open file after download” then click “Change”

6. From your PDA’s Internet Explorer, approach the homepage of Shoutcast. You can select top stations or better yet, find for your favorite music type. The moment you have found the station, choose the “Tune In” icon.

7. Then you can name the station that you have chosen base on your preference.

8. Once you have heard it playing, your task is done.

There you have it. Now you can start grooving and moving to your favorite station and music. You can also choose to drop and drag your files to your personal computer. In cases of Pocket PC troubles, try to check the firewall settings.

A general information about Paso Robles

Plan a trip to Paso Robles California

Are you interested in planning a trip to Paso Robles, California? If you are, you may be looking for more information. Do you want to know what attractions come highly rated and recommended or how to plan an affordable trip? If so, you should turn to one place. That place is the internet.

As for why the internet is recommended to plan a trip to Paso Robles, it is because of the knowledge and insight it can provide you with. If you selected Paso Robles as your next vacation destination, there is a good chance that you did so because of local wineries. These wineries are some of the best in the state! Before planning to visit local wineries, you will want to use the internet to your advantage.

In Paso Robles and in the surrounding area, you will find more than 170 wineries. Many, but not all of these wineries are open to the general public. How do you know which wineries you can visit? You do so by using the internet. To get started, perform a standard internet search with the phrase “Paso Robles wineries.” Visit the websites of each winery to see which ones are open to the public.

After a close examination, you will find that around a hundred of Paso Robles’s wineries are open to the public. It could take you a week or more to visit each winery and since you likely don’t have the time to do so, you need to choose which wineries you want to visit. How do you do so? Once again, with the internet. Online, you can find websites where wineries were rated and reviewed. You should take these ratings and reviews into consideration.

You will also want to use the internet to examine pictures. A picture says a thousand words. Most reputable wineries in the area have online websites with pictures posted. Look at them. Yes, your main purpose of visiting Paso Robles wineries is to sample and buy fine wine, but what about seeing the architectural treasures? For example, do you want to see a castle? Yes, a castle! If so, plan a visit to the Eagle Castle Winery, located on Anderson Road.

In addition to using the internet to learn more about Paso Robles wineries, you can use it to make your travel arrangements, starting with your airline reservations. With the high cost of travel, you may be looking for ways to save money. This is easy to do online. A number of online travel websites offer you moneysaving deals and discounts, including travel packages. Be sure to compare prices to find the best deals. If possible, be flexible with your travel dates and time.

If you will be staying in or around the Paso Robles area for more than a day, you can also use the internet to examine your overnight accommodation options. Do you want to stay at a traditional hotel? If so, compare the rates of the local Courtyard by Marriot and Hampton Inn. Do you want to stay somewhere more unique? If so, use the internet to research local bed and breakfast inns, some of which are located right on winery grounds.

As you can see, there are many ways that you can use the internet to plan and prepare for a trip to Paso Robles, California. What are you waiting for? Get to Paso Robles today.

Redefining the wireless security camera

Have you seen the wireless security camera in movie Dick Tracy? It was the 1990 blockbuster film staring Al Pacino and Madonna. It’s based on Chester Gould’s comic strip, which he wrote and drew from 1931 until 1977. The work featured Dick Tracy, the superhero of police detectives. He was smart. He could punch with an iron fist. Even more impressive, he had the fastest draw in the city. Dick Tracy had to face villains so ugly they could make onions cry. These bad guys and gals include B-B Eyes, who had the eyes of a frog; hairless Miss Egghead; The Blank, who literally had no face; and The Claw, whose hook replaced a missing hand. One of the comic strip’s hallmarks was Dick Tracy’s gadgets, which he used to help track down these evil villains. His most famous tool was his 2-Way Wrist Radio, which, beginning in 1946, allowed Dick Tracy and police force members to communicate easily. In 1964, the watch was improved to a 2-Way Wrist TV, and then to a 2-Way Wrist Computer in the year 1987. Today, a wireless security camera would certainly be included in Dick Tracy’s arsenal of gizmos.

Cameras and Calendars
Before the wireless security camera, there was the television camera. Philo Taylor Farnsworth invented one that transformed the captured image into an electric signal. The U.S. dollar sign was the image that he transmitted. Farnsworth received a patent for his “dissector tube” invention that transmitted the image. Later, the first professional camcorder was put on the market, in 1982. And then during the following year, the first domestic camcorder appeared in stores. The first video surveillance system was installed in 1942, about a decade after Dick Tracy first appeared, to observe the launching of V2-rockets. Today, security cameras have come a long way. They are now digital, rather than analog; and even a wireless security camera can be used!

Pulling the Plug
While a home security system would probably not include a V2-rocket, today the wireless security camera has become instrumental in keeping homes safe. When considering whether or not a wired or wireless security camera is ideal for you, think about the benefits of the wireless security camera.

* They are ideal for the do-it-yourself kind of person because as they are easy to set up and are more portable.
* They are easier to conceal.
* They sometimes have motion-activated sensors that e-mail you after a person has walked into view!
* They can be accessed by logging onto your computer from almost anywhere.
* They do not require a power connector so they can be placed almost anywhere.
* They can save you money because you will not have to spend much money on wires and other electrical pieces.

Working Outside of the Home
The wireless security camera also has several applications outside the home. These include crime registration, monitoring of traffic, observation of industrial processes at factories, and compliance with safety requirements. Today’s wireless security cameras are so tiny they are very difficult or impossible for the naked eye to detect. This makes them ideal for places where the camera must be concealed.

Technology has come a long way since “Dick Tracy” was introduced into the world of comic books in 1931. In fact, the wireless security camera has become so effective that the fearless detective might even use one if he were still prowling the streets for bad guys today.

Connecting people with wireless satellite internet

As technology advanced forward, many of the things we’ve taken for granted for years are being reborn under the banner of wireless or wireless satellite Internet. Of course, we’re talking about a lot more than just receiving the Internet from a satellite connection. Many other technologies have also obtained new life through the use of “sky birds.”

Some of the most visible changes in technologies has been in communications and entertainment. Cellular telephones use satellite services to bounce signals literally around the world. Although cell phone service is typically within a 2 mile radius of a cellular tower, by using the power of stationary satellites, a signal or connection on a cell phone can be routed to wherever another cell tower can be found. This is especially good news for those people who tend to be in more remote areas.

Wireless satellite Internet is a connection to the web that’s available anywhere the sky can be seen. Using a satellite to make the connection into the web holds the promise of all the web all the time, anytime. The always on no matter where you are can be a major benefit for many people. This feature is especially promising for serious followers of sports, sport teams, news, weather junkies, stock reports, etc. Imagine anytime, all the time, whenever there’s a computer to be able to log into you Internet connection using wireless satellite Internet services.

Another technology that falls under the umbrella of wireless satellite Internet is the whole television genre. Companies like Direct Way and Dish Network are rapidly building infrastructure that replaces traditional antennae or cable television reception options. For about the same price as cable-TV a clear view of the southern sky will deliver crystal clear television with all popular channels.

Movies on Demand is an up and coming technology that will literally allow you to order movies to watch whenever you want. No more being tied to the start times of the networks, cable companies or even the satellite entertainment providers. All movies, whenever, all the time is the driving force behind the wave of wireless satellite internet growth in this fast paced industry.

Just what is all this Wi-Fi wireless internet stuff they are trying to confuse and torment me with?

Wireless internet is actually quite simple, useful and most of all convenient.

All you probably want to do is to share your wireless internet connection throughout your home whether it be to other computers or so that you can sit in your bedroom and wirelessly surf the internet or send email. Perhaps as well you wish to share files such as songs throughout the computers in your house, apartment or condo.

Don’t let them confuse with all this alphabet soup - b , g , a , 11 megabytes , 54 , 108.

To begin with most any of the systems are beyond overkill. All will go faster than the even high speed broadband internet. Most use the same frequency as the standard cordless phones (2.4 GHz). . Be reassured the phones and the wireless internet in most cases will co- exist and work well with each other.

The most common wireless setups wireless b and g use the frequency most cordless phone use. G wireless internet is sort of a faster b standard. What is important to know is that it is all standardized. B will work with G and G products will work with B. G is said to up to 5 times faster than B that is assuming that you are relatively close. G wireless is very useful primarily if you are sharing large files between computers. For ordinary browsing b wireless is still overkill speed, faster as said than most broadband wireless internet connections. The usual stated range of these wireless products is 300 feet indoors range and 1000 feet outside. The range is basically line of sight. Heavy dense objects – primarily metal, metal doors, metal foil insulation, heavy bricks and pipes and objects such as furnaces, metal filing cabinets will block reception to some degree. As well if the manufacturer makes some ultra high speed claims remember that both the router and wireless network adapters will have to be that brand and that special computer networking hardware feature to work at those high speeds and transmission rates. Remember to that wireless internet transmission speeds fall rapidly with distance.

Wireless internet is basically a radio setup with a transmitter and receivers. The transmitter is a box that plugs into the internet to share your internet connection. This is called a “Router “. . Wireless routers are made by a number of manufactures and the most widely known are the Linksys and D-Link brands. All routers are fairly good now. Tech support may be something to consider for setup ease. Routers are often sold on sale at big box stores as a means of drawing customers who already have at least one computer into their stores. It is reasoned that if a customer wants to buy a router the odds are good that he or she has more than one computer and once in the store will make additional purchases .Perhaps they will be even so fed up with the older computer as the kids have taken use of the newer faster model that the customer will even buy a additional new computer from the store.. The routers that you will find on sale will most likely be the newer g standard routers which will work with your B or G wireless network adapters in your computers.

Secondly you will need a receiver to receive the wireless internet signal at the computer end. You will have several options depending on your setup. If your laptop is a newer model then you may have a wireless “network adapter:” already built into your laptop. If you have an older laptop you can install a PCMCIA wireless network adapter into the credit card sized slot on your laptop. If you have a desktop computer you will have several options. If you have the abilities and are allowed by your warranty to open your computer case then you can install a standard PCI wireless card. The advantage of the PCI cards is that they almost always work, are screwed in so that they cannot be dislodged to stop working. The disadvantage is that the antenna of the card is hidden behind the metal of the computer case limiting reception. Another option is USB wireless adapters. Not only can the USB wireless adapter be installed without opening the case but as well with a USB extension cord the YSB network adapter can be lifted away from the computer to a higher more open place.

Several points on setup to make your life easier. After all networking is often called “Voodoo Science “. First if you are buying both the wireless internet adapters as well as the router try to buy the same brand, There will be easier setup , perhaps faster speed and tech support will not be able to blame the other vendor’s product for setup issues. You can tell tech support even after the return period of the store: “I guess the products are defective and have to be replaced “. There will be no issue of blaming the other vendor’s product. Case closed. Secondly most of the routers are setup by a “web based interface “. Some will come with an install disc as wizard. With others you will enter a web address usually 192.168.x.x and a password. To enter this setup interface. The instructions and passwords should be in either your instructional manual or disc that came in the box with your router. If you have a standard cable broadband account then just follow instructions if you have a DSL type of broadband internet connection then you will need the paper the phone company gave you with your internet account name and setup password. The type of connection that you set up in the router for DSL connections is called “POPE” The connection internet connection password is most likely different than your email password. This internet connection password is of very little value to anyone else. If you do not have this information phone your DSL provider tech support.

Next install the wireless internet adapters. Windows XP has its own wireless utility program installed. With previous versions of windows (Windows 98, 2000 and ME) you will have to install the utility program that the manufacturer provided on the install disk.

Most of his install manuals have 2 different sets of instructions – one for Windows XP, the other for the remaining operating systems.

When you setup the router you will be given a choice of whether to turn on the security features so that other people can drive up in front of your house and freeload your internet signals. It is anyone’s choice whether they wish to use this feature or not.
Believe me there will be no shortage of wireless internet connections for those freeloaders – estimate is 60 %. You can say to yourself if someone wants to waste gas to sit in front of my home to download songs or whatever good for them . If you wish to turn on the scrambling to sign onto your internet it will be in the advanced wireless or wireless security section of your router control panel. There are a number of choices. Most common is a setup called “WEP” (Web Enabled Protection)… This is available in a standard 64 bit or more secure 128 bit WEP settings. 64 bit setup is easier. 128 bit has you enter a long string of characters twice. Lots of fun with mistakes on entering those digits correctly. The easier to use security setup routines will allow an easy to use phrase code generator. For example in the phrase code generator you enter the word Badgerlinux. The number / character code will then be generated that you must enter both the router and wireless adapter ends of your system. WEP is considered by purists not as secure as a newer system called WPA. Not all of the older hardware supports WPA. You may look at it as – if someone in my area can break into my WEP protected wireless system then that is the least of my troubles.

Lastly the biggest problem with wireless internet networks in neighbors. That is right neighbors. It is estimated that 40 % of wireless products are returned to big box stores. There are 12 available channels available in the wireless router settings. For convenience and to aid setup most brands of routers place the default channel of their routers as channel 6 right in the middle of the 12 channels available. It does not take much a signal at all to confuse your wireless adapter. You will see signal strength of your wireless route signal but you will unable to get a solid internet connection.

Worse yet this phenomenon of no wireless internet connection may be sporadic. In many cases you will not be able to even spot the culprit in your wireless configuration software.

Remarkably wireless internet signals can travel a fair distance and may even appear to come out of nowhere. Worse yet the interference may be on sporadic. And as said it does not take much of a signal at all to leave you with no internet connection.

The answer is simplicity itself. “Change the Channel “. There are 12 available channels in your router setup control panel. The next 2 choices for wireless channel selection are at the 2 ends of the spectrum – channels 1 and 11. However it may simply be a matter of trial and error.

Wireless internet is rather amazing, you can surf the world, download songs, send email and transfer files conveniently at high speed and at some distance away from your internet connection. In addition you do not have to call or pay electrician to string the internet network wiring in your home. And if you wish to move the computers or even move just pickup and make the move.

If in the end you are having troubles on setup do not feel afraid to call tech support. Someone in India or the Philippines will be more than happy to assist you. Remember in the end you have the ultimate threat of all, that is to take your new Wi-Fi wireless internet products back to your store of purchase.

Rural areas needs a long-range wireless phone extender to overcome communication problem

This article on Long-Range Phone Extender is devoted for the purpose of discussing the method of extending a phone, fax and internet (low-speed access) connection up to a distance of 10 to 200 km. A scenario: businessman-supplier is doing business supplying raw materials found only in a place where communication service is hard to establish. His business requires that he establish contact with his buyers to check on prices, etc. What is the most cost-effective solution in order to have access to communication- voice and data or fas/internet.

Consider also the case of a mother yearning to establish a home-based internet business. Home-based workers can take advantage long-range phone extender to work from the comfort of their homes like submitting articles or doing email marketing on-line. Basically, a home-based worker will need a broadband internet connection, but there are some type home-based business activities that can be served using phone extenders for internet access.

In cases where using Outdoor Long-Range WLAN and other wireless broadband technology is not a feasible communication option owing to terrain and distance from source (Pt A) to remote village (Pt B), an appropriate solution would be to use a Wireless Long-Range Phone Extender.

A Wireless Long-Range Phone Extender is a fixed-wireless radio equipment capable of extending or hauling a fixed-line (analog landline) dial tone wirelessly to very long-distances. For it to work, you will need a pair (two units) of radio called a base station radio and remote station. It is not the traditional two-way radio but its operation is very similar.

Long Range Phone Extender base and remote station units work in tandem. The only difference is that phone-extenders utilizes full-duplex function so that users in both ends can hear each other simultaneously while talking unlike a normal push-to-talk two radio. Just like two-way radios the phone extender’s radio antenna must be elevated via an antenna tower.

The secret to its long-distance transmission capability is on its power output and frequency. Phone extenders use VHF and UHF frequency, the level capable of reaching very long-distance. The lower the frequency and the higher the power output, the higher will be the transmission range.

A phone extender with an output power of 25Watts can reach as much as 200Km on point-to-point communication. Added functionality is fax and modem compatibility such that you can receive fax messages and use dial-up internet access on the remote site.

Internet speed can reach up to 56Kbps or lower depending on the quality of the communication line. Some long-range phone equipment offers reliable data speed even beyond a distance of 100Km.

Wireless Long-Range Phone Extender is very ideal for remote islands, jungles, remote resorts and villages. It is widely used in remote places in the world owing to its reliability and simple operation. Big savings on long-distance call can be derived since you’re using an extended local line. You can call such local area even if its 100 km away free at no extra long-distance charges.

In the case above, the businessman can save much on communication cost by having to call his buyer via a phone extender with unlimited calling instead of using a service that charges per minute long-distance call.

Long-Range Wireless LAN, cost-effective solution for rural internet access?

Is long-range wireless LAN finally the answer for cost-effective internet access in remote regions?

The physical and geographic location of some remote regions of the world has made it difficult to establish a reliable long-range Wireless LAN thus depriving it full benefits of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Linking remote communities to the so-called communications highway by landline or by any of the available fixed-line systems is simply expensive and financially not viable. The reality of few subscribers in rural areas can dampen every investor’s enthusiasm.

Notwithstanding the phenomenal growth of cellular-mobile phones that brought tremendous impact to communication, high speed connection to the internet, is very much limited with early generation GSM/CDMA phones and to some extent next generation mobile wireless networks. It would take years for 3G technology to make an impact in remote regions.

In order to catch-up with the ICT bandwagon, fill-in the demand for broadband connectivity and services in un-served areas, an opportunity awaits to be tap by utilizing long-range Wireless LAN (WLAN) and long-range cordless telecom platforms (also called as phone extender) which are fast gaining ground as a reliable, secure and cost-effective alternative to delivering broadband communications services in remote areas.

This articles aims to harness and leverage new emerging Long-Range Wireless LAN technology to compliment existing fixed-line network resources and improve delivery of data communications in remote regions of the world.

Discover how Long-Range Wireless LAN will answer the requirement for a true cost-effective solution internet access in remote regions.

WIFI INDOOR VS OUTDOOR LONG-RANGE WIRELESS LAN PLATFORM:

There are two types of Wireless LAN which is synonymous to short-range and long-range communication: indoor and outdoor.

Indoor type equipment refers to traditional device, as the word suggest, connotes limited transmission coverage within 30-50m and up to 900m when fitted with outdoor antenna. However, being fitted with outdoor antenna does not make them true outdoor equipment. Synchronization and reliable operation are sometimes sacrificed. Indoor-type Wireless LAN equipment are “off-the-shelf”, commercially available equipment that can be obtained from computer dealers. It is designed purely for indoor use.

The second type is outdoor long-range Wireless LAN. The difference lies in the design and intended application. Some WLAN manufacturers are concentrating on making outdoor equipment, designing them for maximum transmission coverage while maintaining data throughput.

Outdoor Long-Range Wireless LAN is designed to be robust, resilient, reliable, secure and weatherproof. As “true-outdoor” unit (as oppose to indoor fitted with outdoor antenna), both radio unit and antenna are installed outdoors utilizing Power-over-Ethernet (POE note: power is feed via CAT 5 cable) thus resulting in minimal gain loss because of their shorter antenna cables.

Depending on the radiated power (250mW to 1 watt to 4 watts) and antenna-type (Omni, Flat-Panel, Yagi, Parabolic and Dish) range can reach from 9km to 60km long enough to reach remote areas. Data transmission speed varies though with up to 11Mbps max for 802.11b model with auto-fallback going 5.5 or 2Mbps sacrificing speed/throughput in favor of reliable transmission and up to 54Mbps and 108Mbps (in turbo-mode) for some 802.11g/a model also with auto-fallback.

Outdoor Long-Range Wireless LAN on bridge and point-to-point mode can reach as much as 60Km transmission distance in open terrain (line-of-sight). Truly, Long-Range Wireless LAN is a cost-effective solution for rural internet access.

Redefining Wireless Fidelity as it should be

What is Wireless Fidelity?

Wifi or Wireless Fidelity, allows you to connect to the internet from virtually anywhere at speeds of up to 54Mbps. WiFi enabled computers and handsets use radio technologies based on the IEEE 802.11 standard to send and receive data anywhere within the range of a base station. Wireless is a technology that’s inexpensive, easy to use, and practical and yet… it’s a technology that’s still very young. Here’s a quick look at what the future could hold for wireless.

The Radio and the Phone

Wireless networks will always win over wired ones, if for no other reason, simply because it is much cheaper for signals to travel through the air than it is to install and maintain wires. For example… consider that telephones were originally used for sending and receiving news reports. When radio was invented, this stopped almost overnight – why bother going to all that expense when it’s free ‘over the air’? The same principle applies to computer networking.

Imagine having a choice between a wired Internet connection and a wireless one. The only reason to choose a wired connection would be cost because currently it’s cheaper? However, that will change soon. Wireless is also easier. Once the cost gap closes, if given the opportunity, there’s no logical reason why anyone wouldn’t switch to a wireless connection.

WiMAX

WiMAX is the next generation of wireless. It will use a standard called 802.16. The current standard is 802.11. It’s still a work in progress, but the possibilities are exciting.

WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and is designed to complement existing wireless equipment… rather than replace it. The big advantage of WiMAX is that it greatly increases range. Rather than being measured in square meters, which is how the current standard is measured in, WiMAX ranges will be measured in square kilometers. Some estimates say the best WiMAX stations will be able to transmit up to 50 kilometers or about 30 miles!

Clearly, this opens an incredibly wide range of possibilities. Wireless access would move from LANs (Local Area Networks) to MANs: (Metropolitan Area Networks) covering a whole town or city with wireless access. The question would no longer be if you could connect via wireless, but what WiMAX network you wanted to connect too.

Other benefits of WiMAX include speed of up to 70Mbps (almost 10 MB per second) and better security. Imagine a future where ordering Internet access is as simple as connecting your existing wireless equipment to the network, opening your web browser and buying a low cost subscription. That’s it – done. No more access points, no more routers, no more configuration… just wireless Internet, anywhere and everywhere at broadband speeds. WiMAX is in the process of taking the world by storm.

For the latest news on WiMAX visit the WiMAX Forum (a non-profit industry group set up to promote WiMAX) at http://www.wimaxforum.org. WiMAX has been in development since 2001 and the first WiMAX equipment is expected to hit the market in late 2005 or early 2006.

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a new standard for short range radio connectivity. It is the new and promising field in the wireless communications standardization activities, which will profoundly affect the operation and applications of electronic gadgets of the future. The most obvious purpose of Bluetooth technology is to replace USB and it’s designed to eventually replace almost every wire there is… except power cables. What does that mean? It means that someday your TV could be connecting to your DVD player via Bluetooth or your speakers could connect to your radio with it, and so on and so on.

As you get older, expect to see fewer and fewer wires. I know… people said the same thing about paper but it turns out that people like paper and don’t want a ‘paperless society’. On the other hand, how many people do you know who have cable or wire fetish? The biggest remaining article is reliable wireless power. When they figure out how to provide reliable wireless power (i.e. better batteries)… look out because the flood gates will really open up.

A Simpler Life

Convenience… the first benefit of wireless technology that comes to my mind. Wires have so many flaws, especially when they go long distances and the overall wireless project is to remove the vast majority of them from our lives. Of course, another nice benefit will be cost because once wireless if up and going full-bore it will cost less than wire based transmission.

My prediction… within 10 years, wireless access will be making everyone’s life much easier and it will be the norm. The future is wireless!

What’s happen with wireless internet terminology?

Defining the wireless internet terminology from our point of view

Wireless Internet Terminology, like many things in life, especially those that have anything to do with computers is filled with terminology. But like most things, once you learn a few of the basic terms, understanding will come quickly. So don’t be confused get informed about wireless internet and to help clarify, I’ve put together a basic wireless internet-to-english guide to help you along.

IEEE – The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
The IEEE is in charge of the wireless networking standard, as well as many other computer-related standards – including the Ethernet standard. They ensure that computer equipment made by different manufacturers can work together.

PCMCIA – Personal Computer Memory Card International Association
Simply another standard for how to plug credit card size devices into a laptop computer to boost it’s capabilities. It’s been suggested by some that it should stand for “People Can’t Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms”. PCMCIA is a great way of adding wireless networking to your laptop as easily as inserting a disk.

PCI – Peripheral Component Interconnect
Used to install devices like graphics cards and network devices inside your computer. You would be using a PCI, if you wanted to install a wireless card inside your computer.

802.11
Set by the IEEE, it’s the current wireless networking standard. It helps ensure that wireless devices can communicate with one another or in other words – they are interoperable.

Interoperable
Simply means that two different pieces of equipment have the ability to speak to each other or another way to put it – they are compatible. They can use them together because they were designed using the same standards. Because of the IEEE and the principle of interoperability, all wireless equipment you purchase should be compatible.

Driver
Not a piece of golf equipment but computer software that informs a computer how to talk to devices that plug into it. Most wireless networking drivers come on a CD-ROM. You then download the drivers from the CD onto your computer.

Ethernet
Currently, the most common way of connecting to a LAN or Local Area Network. Most wires connected to your computer today are ethernet and if you have a cable internet connection an ethernet wire is in all likely-hood, what is being used to connect to your modem to set up a wireless internet connection.

USB – Universal Serial Bus
A port used for connecting all sorts of devices to a computer, including keyboards, a mouse, printers, external hard-drives and basically anything else you can think of. If you don’t have a laptop or want to open up your computer you can get a USB wireless device.

WEP – Wired Equivalent Privacy
No longer used because in 2001 it was found to have security issues. As a result, it is now the old standard for encrypting wireless networks.

WPA – WiFi Protected Access
The new standard for encrypting wireless networks. An upgrade of WEP to fix security issues. To avoid becoming vulnerable, a WPA encrypted network changes encryption methods often. In addition, if an attack is detected, it has the ability to shut itself down for thirty seconds.

PAN – Personal Area Network
A network of devices connected together in one small area. A simple example of a PAN would be your computer, USB keyboard and mouse. Using a technology called Bluetooth, a PAN can be wireless.

LAN – Local Area Network
Briefly mentioned above, LAN is a computer network that… generally speaking is confined to one building, such as a home or office. A wireless LAN is also known as a WLAN.

MAN – Metropolitan Area Network
A network that covers a larger area, like a city or town. They are expensive but a wireless MAN has the capacity to spread wireless Internet access across a wide area. Many college universities set-up a MAN to connect the entire campus.

WAN – Wide Area Network
A network that covers or connects to more than one physical site. A simple example would be a business that has locations in different cities, states or countries and they need them each location connected on the same network. The Internet itself is a WAN… the biggest WAN in the world.

Mbps – Megabits Per Second
Not to be confused with MBps, megabytes per second. Mbps is measurement of connection speed. There are eight megabits in a megabyte.

GHz – Gigahertz
One gigahertz is one billion cycles per second… it’s a measurement of frequency. If the term sounds familiar it’s probably because it’s also used to measure the processing speed of the CPU on your computer, which is also measured in gigahertz.

Linux
A popular and growing alternative operating system to Windows. Linux is a less bulky, more efficient operating system in many ways than Windows and not to mention – it’s free. Many servers run Linux for this reason. Computers running Linux can run many programs and connect to the Internet without needing Windows. Many wireless internet devices run Linux or are compatible with it.
