A guide to helps you fix the Windows 7 audio problems

No audio problems would come into your computer in a variety of ways, which includes that no sound when playing some music, movies, audio files like MIDI, WAV or in games; users cannot hear sound from mouse start navigation clicks, Windows startup sound, messenger’s user online or incoming message notification alert and etc. First, check whether you have a right connection to sound box or earphone.

Third, check whether the audio cable is damaged.

If there is no sound when playing a CD, try another CD; if no sound when playing an MP3 or other sound files, try a different file to locate the audio problems. Sixth, select any system sound such as Chord to play and see whether it has a sound out.

Ninth, in the Device Manager, if there is an exclamation point (!) in a yellow circle next to your audio device, it indicates this audio has a hardware conflict with other devices, and then resolve this conflict; if a red ‘X’ next to your sound device, it indicates you have turned off this device, try to turn it on.

Tenth, make sure the compatibility between your audio device, audio drivers and the system.

Eleventh, if you use an on-board audio card, check whether the device has been turned on in the BIOS, if not, turn it on.

Twelfth, if your sound device is a plug-and-play, check whether the plug-and-play BIOS need to be updated or configured.

First, did you mute your audio devices by mistake?

Second, is the audio driver installed appropriately?

Right-click My Computer, select Properties then the Hardware tab and open Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers to extend it. Look for an exclamation point or an interrogation point next to your audio device.

When you install the driver, you should select manufacturer driver rather than Windows default driver.

Third, is there any incompatibility audio problems between sound card and DirectX?

If the computer has no sound after installing an up-to-date DirectX tool, you need to update your audio driver; if it doesn’t work, unload the new DirectX and reset up the original one. Fourth, are the sound card installation and related connections correct?

Enter BIOS, examine carefully if the related settings are correct, particularly the IRQ and PNP settings, ensure all IRQ settings are adjusted as “PCI/ISA PNP”. Sixth, does the built-in sound card conflict with the external sound card?

Before we set up an external audio card, remember to disable related integrated audio items in the BIOS or shield the on-board audio adapter through motherboard jumper.

If the on-board audio is unable to be screened, you can first install the integrated audio driver, and then disable all audio devices listing under Sound, video and game controllers in the Manager Device, finally set up an independent audio driver. Seventh, is there any conflict or incompatibility between sound card and other hardware?

The audio card often would have compatibility problems with devices like Modems with phonetic features, for that you can try the sound card in another slot, after that reset up the audio devices.

Besides, you should check whether the sound card conflicts with other external cards that cause the audio problems.
